A nice chunk of my 22 years living in White Plains, was spent buying produce for juicing and cooking at my fave market in Hartsdale. Now that we're living in The Catskills, my quest to find that similar market prototype I grew to love in Westchester, continues. I had forgotten hubs and I came here before during one of our bi-annual trips to The Catskills. Recently though, when I searched for produce markets near work in Highland, Wallkill View in New Paltz popped up within a short driving distance. As you drive past all of New Paltz bustling shops and restaurants on Main St, you'll soon approach a sleepy farmland area overlooking Mohonk Preserve in about 5 or so minutes. I've been hard-pressed to find a market that tops my favorite one in Westchester and checks all the boxes. Wallkill View grows and sells a nice mix of produce the area has to offer. And when veggies and fruit aren't grown on-site or in season, they're sourced from elsewhere. Unlike other farm markets that operate only Sat+Sun, Wallkill V. is open everyday. Well...almost. These folks shut down for Christmas and throughout the winter- reopening in March. Prices are about $1 more than what I paid down in White Plains- but hey... I get it. Service is great though.
I was lucky enough to have a friend pick me up some food from Wallkill Farms while she was in NY. She brought me back some lovely peaches, blueberries and tomatoes. All delicious and fresh. Beautifully ripe peaches - super in season. Along with the fruit I got some ciabatta rolls and a loaf of sourdough. Absolutely delicious. The sourdough is one of the best I've ever had. I'm almost upset she got me these goodies because the market is so far away but I'm glad I got to try some delicious things. If you're in the area don't sleep on this market!
After soccer, we relish visiting this farm where we delight in their fresh and flavorful vegetables.
Nice place. Parking infront of the store. Fresh baked goodies. Fresh fruits and vegetables available. Friendly staff.
I'm a fortunate local who typically visits Wallkill View Farm Market weekly, when time permits. During the summer, I build my meal plans around what I know will be fresh, local and plentiful from the Market. We purchase our Summer and Fall hanging plants as well as annuals and perennials for our garden. In addition, we love the wide variety of pumpkins that I roast at the end of the season and use year round. Our Christmas Tree comes from the Market every year too. The family and staff are extremely helpful and friendly. There are days, particularly in the Summer and Fall when the market is pretty overrun with tourists who, on occasion, forget that they are not in the big city and become quite rude and demanding. I have never witnessed any staff member respond rudely or inappropriately. I, on the other hand, would have been likely to have a swift retort for some guests. Are the prices a little higher than one might pay at Walmart? Yes, and the quality is far superior and the $ goes to support a local business that, in turn, employs locals and contributes to the local economy. I can't wait for my next visit!
